Trump and May participated in a bilateral meeting early Friday at Chequers in Buckinghamshire, England, as well as a working lunch and a joint news conference.
A day earlier, the prime minister hosted Trump and first lady Melania Trump for dinner at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace and family home of Churchill.
“We wanted to do something different for the president,” British Ambassador to the U.S. Kim Darroch told reporters. “We know that he is an enthusiast of Winston Churchill. He’s a big fan of the film ‘Darkest Hour,’ so we thought it would be nice to do a dinner for him at Blenheim Palace.”
Trump hosted a screening of the film at the White House last year. The film details Churchill’s early days as prime minister leading Britain though World War II.
After Trump was inaugurated in 2017, he moved a bust of the former prime minister back into the Oval Office.
