President Trump celebrated FIFA’s decision to award the U.S., Canada, and Mexico the 2026 World Cup in a Wednesday tweet.
The U.S., together with Mexico and Canada, just got the World Cup. Congratulations – a great deal of hard work!

The awarding comes as the U.S. is engaged in an ongoing trade spat with Canada and Mexico led by the president who has long believed that both countries are taking advantage of the U.S.
Nonetheless, Trump has touted the U.S. bid for the World Cup in the past even going so far as to threaten other countries not to oppose his bid.
The U.S. has put together a STRONG bid w/ Canada & Mexico for the 2026 World Cup. It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the U.S. bid. Why should we be supporting these countries when they don’t support us (including at the United Nations)?

The 2026 World Cup will occur in 16 cities across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico with 10 of those cities inside the U.S. The final match will be held at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.
