Following a tour of the Coastal Bend neighborhoods destroyed by Hurricane Harvey, Texas First Lady Cecelia Abbott treated First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady Karen Pence to a Lone Star favorite — Whataburger.
The visit to the iconic Texas fast food hamburger restaurant chain came after a tour of Rockport, Aransas Pass and other coastal communities left virtually destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. There is no word on what Mrs. Trump or Mrs. Pence ordered, but members of the media were all provided with an order of fries, KSTV CBS10 in Corpus Christi reported. Corpus Christi is the birthplace of the highly successful franchise.
The Corpus Christi Police Department responded, tweeting a message saying the First Lady “knows a good burger.”
“As we approach Christmas this holiday season, your family is an example of what it means to have hope and recognize your blessings. You serve as a reminder to all of us that the best gifts are those of family and friends, love and kindness,” Mrs. Trump told survivors of the deadly storm.
Mrs. Abbott’s Texas delegation to greet the First Lady and Mrs. Pence included Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush.
While in Rockport, the group was scheduled to meet with a family whose home was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey when the storm pounded the community on the evening of August 25, KRIS NBC6 reported.
White House social media director Dan Scavino, Jr. tweeted a video showing the group touring a local food bank that is still delivering services to displaced families in South Texas.
“The effects of the hurricane season are still being felt throughout southern portions of the United States and in Puerto Rico, and residents still need our help,” First Lady Melania Trump expressed. “While I am heartened by the strength and resilience of those impacted by the storms, I will continue doing all that I can to lend a voice and shine a spotlight on those who need assistance to rebuild and start new family traditions.”
Governor Greg Abbott tweeted his approval of the visit:
