Virginia’s Democratic governor made odd and borderline creepy remarks to MSNBC’s Katy Tur on Monday, telling her to move to Virginia and that Virginia was a state “for lovers.”
Gov. Terry McAuliffe spoke to Tur about Tuesday’s gubernatorial race, when he noticed that she wasn’t smiling enough.
“Katy, you’ve got to enjoy life a little bit more. I mean, it’s not so bad,” McAuliffe said. “You gotta come move to Virginia, things are great here.”
“I enjoy life,” Tur replied. “I enjoy life. And Virginia is a great state.”
“Well, you don’t sound it!” McAuliffe said. “You’ve got to enjoy it.”
Tur suggested that she was a little down because of the tragic shooting on Sunday in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
“Live a little,” McAuliffe continued. “Don’t be so negative about Virginia. We’re doing great here.”
After Tur said she looked forward to speaking with McAuliffe after the election, McAuliffe made a remark that probably didn’t go over as he’d planned.
“I just want you smiling and thinking big. Virginia’s for lovers,” the governor said.
