In case you forgot recently, the people of Venezuela are still starving to death thanks to your friendly neighborhood socialism (see Venezuelan Economy In Full Death Spiral Inflation Rate 2276%). While citizens have previously feasted on Chef Boygarbage and their pet rabbits, the stakes are higher in a new form of carnivorism. The vegans won’t be happy.
One morning in August at the metropolitan zoo in the torrid city of Maracaibo, workers were shocked to find the bones of a buffalo and some wild pigs inside their cages with clear signs of mutilation. Thieves allegedly stole the meat to eat what they could and sell the rest on the local market.
In west Caracas, at the zoo of Caricuao district, the same sort of thing happened. Watchmen found the bones and offal of a black horse inside its enclosure. Apparently the perpetrators only took the edible parts of the animal.
Smart. One wonders if they took pictures with their kill and tagged #PETA before scurrying home, gobbling raw horse meat in hand. It gets even worse. But don’t worry, the Venezuelan president has everything under control. He’s trying to start rabbit farms around the capital to feed people. Trigger warning for the Easter Bunny:
“We want people to stop seeing these [rabbits] as pets and start seeing them as what they really are, two kilograms of meat full of protein,” declared Minister of Urban Agriculture Freddy Bernal.
But, indeed, Venezuelans traditionally do see rabbits as pets and not food, so in areas where the government brought rabbits to start farms people started adopting them, giving them funny nicknames, and even embellishing their long ears with colorful bows. No question of eating the little dears after that.
This situation is a perfect dichotomy between smart carnivores and those whose bones are sticking out of their chests saying, “But look at Fluffy’s pretty ribbons!”
Reuters is reporting:
A police official said two collared peccaries, which are similar in appearance to boars, were stolen over the weekend from the Zulia Metropolitan Zoological Park in the sweltering city of Maracaibo near the Colombian border.
“What we presume is that they (were taken) with the intention of eating them,” Luis Morales, an official for the Zulia division of the National Police, told reporters on Tuesday.
The chaotic collapse of the country’s socialist economic model has created chronic food shortages that have fueled malnutrition and left millions seeking food anywhere they can find it, including in trash cans and dumpsters.
President Nicolas Maduro blames food shortages on opposition protests that have blocked streets and highways and a broader “economic war” led by adversaries with the help of Washington.
This is a perfect example of how socialism works. Hint: it absolutely does not. Even if socialism is dressed up in the pretty pink bows under the label of “Democratic,” it still steals from the wealthy, “gives” nothing but breadlines to the poor, leads people to starve, then makes people slaughter Timon and Pumbaa for breakfast. It’s a good system for the mass genocide of caged animals. Not a good system for the vegans. Or, you know, people who want to live well…
