Alec Baldwin completely lost it on Twitter on Saturday, which included the actor victim-blaming actress Rose McGowan and firing out some nasty (and sexist) tweets before he quit Twitter in a huff, disappearing into the night with the final words “au revoir.”

The whole debacle started on Friday, when Baldwin did an interview with PBS. He admitted that he had heard a “rumor” that McGowan had been raped by Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, but didn’t act on the information.

Instead, Baldwin, 59, said McGowan should have taken action as he blamed her decision to take a settlement for burying the incident.

“What happened was that Rose McGowan took a payment of $100,000 and settled her case with him, and it was for Rose McGowan to prosecute that case. … I had no idea, until now, that she had settled the case,” Baldwin said.

“Do the settlement of these cases hurt the cause of exposing and bringing us to a place of real change? When women take money and are silenced by that money, even though they took the money and were silenced because they were told, beyond the money, it was the right thing for them to do — keep quiet, don’t make too many waves, it is going to hurt your career. When they do it, nonetheless, does it set back the cause of change?”

Rose McGowan, who was 23 when she was allegedly assaulted, and who has led the charge against Weinstein, then wrote on Twitter:

Supporters of McGowan defended the actress.

Then Argento’s boyfriend, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, jumped in.

Baldwin fired back.

When journalist Kayla Cobb weighed in, Baldwin tweeted (then promptly deleted) a fairly sexist jibe at her: “Why don’t you let prosecutors and real journalists investigate such cases and you stick to divorces and plastic surgery.”

By then, hundreds of people were piling on in the thread, which led Baldwin to post a series of tweets.

And with that, he was gone. Sadly, you know he’ll be back, someday.
