A mugshot of a California mother who was arrested is spurring headlines and gaining social media attention—but for a different reason.

Mirella Ponce, 20 was arrested by Fresno Police on Monday in California after being stopped and found to have a gun and known gang members in her car, along with her baby, CBS News reported.

“She was charged with possession of a firearm in a vehicle and she had her infant child with her,” Fresno police Lt. Mark Hudson told CBS News.

The young mom had neck and chest tattoos with the words “Love is Pain” that was visible in her mugshot. She was booked into jail on felony charges.

Fresno police posted the mugshot of her to their Facebook page Monday night. As of Friday, Oct. 27 it has been shared nearly 5,000 times. The photo received thousands of comments and over 2 thousand reactions.

Police wrote in the post’s description that Ponce herself was a “TRG gang member” which stands for “Tiny Rascal Gang,” a predominantly Cambodian-American street gang.

Social media erupted with comments on the gang member’s makeup and looks.

“The only crime she committed was stealing my heart,” wrote one commenter.

“Those are the best looking eyebrows I’ve seen on this page,” a second person mentioned.

Another person pointed out that people seemed to be ignoring the crime Ponce committed.

“All about her looks and not about the child in the car or the fact she’s a gang member carrying a gun with other gang members.”

“Wow. Everybody’s on here talking about how she’s pretty. She was endangering her child’s life rolling around with a gang member and a loaded weapon. Good Lord people. Who cares about her looks and highlight. She’s a freaking criminal,” another person added, agreeing with the above post.

Police also included a photo of Ponce’s firearm which she allegedly had at the time of her arrest. The bright pink-colored handgun, along with some ammunition, drew more comments.

One person even offered to pay her bail.

However, Bondsman Charles Vang with Vanguard Bail Bonds noted that there is a liability for the person who pays for the bail. Vang said if the inmate misses her court date, the person could be stuck paying the full amount of the bond.

For Ponce, that amount is $155,000, CBS News reported.

Charles Magill, a legal analyst said her looks might even help her in court.

“I think the rule of thumb is judges do go more lenient on women period, because of the bias, frankly,” Magill told CBS. “But there are a lot of female judges out there as well.”

A similar case took place two years ago when former Stockton inmate and now model Jeremy Meeks received nationwide attention for his mugshot.
