A group of anti-Trump Alt-Left protesters hopes to revive tactics of the Occupy Wall Street movement in November in order to get Trump out of office.
The self-described “resistance” force announced they plan to not only continue their campaign to protest the president until he is removed from office, but they hope to double down on their efforts by creating several longer lasting protests in which individuals occupy a set space for weeks or months at a time, according to a report from Politico Wednesday.
“We must begin in the key cities with several thousand people in each,” Organizer Andy Zee said about the plan. “We can imagine the protest site alive with serious discussions and debates over the big issues of the day, strategizing about the road forward in our struggle to drive out the regime.” (Related: Video: Man Asks Antifa Why They’re Protesting. The resistance groups held meetings in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas over the weekend, and plan to copy Occupy Wall Street tactics to occupy a large piece of land in several cities across the country until Trump is either removed from office or resigns.
Various groups have protested Trump since the night he won the presidential election last November, when hundreds gathered in an impromptu demonstration in front of the White House. The Women’s March the day after the president’s inauguration in January was the largest protest.
The group plans to change protesting norms in November, when they’ll launch their demonstrations. (Related: Antifa Ruthlessly Stabs Man for Having ‘Neo-Nazi Haircut’)
Protesters occupied Zuccotti park in New York City in 2011 in an attempt to fight income inequality and other sins of the financial industry. Thousands of protesters slept in tents and sleeping bags from Sept. 17 until they were finally evicted by police in December.
Protesters in New York ultimately accomplished very little, but organizers credited that to poor organizing and the fact that no one was really able to settle on a true end goal of the demonstrations.
The upcoming protests will be much different, according to Zee, primarily due to the group’s single rallying cry: the ousting of Trump.
