Opinion: A Nation Divided, Can America Overcome This Turbulent Time? 12

You don’t have to look far to see that The Unites States is very divided right now, and I am not going to mince words and claim they are more divided now than they ever have been,  the nation has faced incredible turmoil in the past, and we overcame it. We have been through revolutions, depressions, a civil war, and 9/11 just to name a few historic obstacles we Americans have faced.

The political earthquake that elected Donald Trump has left the United States approaching 2020 with a political landscape reminiscent of 1920.

Not since that time has the cultural chasm between urban and non-urban America shaped the struggle over the country’s direction as much as today. Of all the overlapping generational, racial, and educational divides that explained Trump’s stunning upset over Hillary Clinton last year, none proved more powerful than the distance between the Democrats’ continued dominance of the largest metropolitan areas, and the triumph for the GOP just about everywhere else.

Trump’s victory was reminiscent of an empire-strikes-back moment for all the places and voters that feel left behind in an increasingly diverse, post-industrial, and urbanized America. Squeezing bigger margins from smaller places, Trump overcame a tide of resistance in the largest metropolitan areas that allowed Clinton to carry the national popular vote, but not the decisive Electoral College.

Anyone who is not completely blinded by their own bias knows that the entire mainstream media establishment is anti-Trump, with the exception of FoxNews (albeit not as bias as the others according to the following study). A new Harvard study shows that coverage of Trump is 80% negative. This beats every president, and by a long shot, in modern history.

There is a liberal media bias and it is time the left admits this, newspapers and various other news publications are predominately liberal employed, and liberal owned. I don’t have to tell you what is behind this do I? Ok – it is the almighty dollar. The days of reporting on the truth are over, journalists have turned into gossip columnist pimping an agenda to their audience for clicks.

The recent hysteria that the Washington Post and New York Times have created are all based on anonymous sources, and generally of former government employees, its all conjecture, and unverifiable, something even those publications admit. They are promoting fake news, hearsay, and anonymous sources in the name of free press? No, it is to promote an agenda.

The media is a threat to democracy in its current form. When we stop reporting on facts, and start reporting on hearsay, we cross the line from journalists to publications worthy of the checkout lane at a grocery store. And you are only fueling the liberal fire. You lost the election, get over it, time to now make a difference.

Get over your election loss, move on, and do your jobs. You know why the DNC is now moving away from talking about impeachment? Because some far-right conservatives called for Obama’s impeachment, and the GOP never acted on it, or brought it up, you look like children.

Still don’t believe me? Enjoy this slideshow that highlights how disgusting, and it is, the media headlines are. And I will admit I am part of this problem.

I myself, and Project Republic have similar headlines, though we are far from mainstream, we are small, and barely three months old, but we are just getting started. I can put my bias aside and point out my own, or other conservative publications bias, can you? While we aim to provide an unbiased reporting of the facts, our bias does get in the way SOME of the time, but we do take pride in going at it in a fair and balanced way.

There was a great article in Vox, and it highlights the Liberal propaganda machine, and buying into the Russian conspiracy theory narrative, and yes, it is a conspiracy theory. There is ZERO proof of any collusion, and the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters have admitted this.

Here is a great excerpt from the Vox Article:

President Donald Trump is about to resign as a result of the Russia scandal. Bernie Sanders and Sean Hannity are Russian agents. The Russians have paid off House Oversight Chair Jason Chaffetz to the tune of $10 million, using Trump as a go-between. Paul Ryan is a traitor for refusing to investigate Trump’s Russia ties. Libertarian heroine Ayn Rand was a secret Russian agent charged with discrediting the American conservative movement.

These are all claims you can find made on a new and growing sector of the internet that functions as a fake news bubble for liberals, something I’ve dubbed the Russiasphere. The mirror image of Breitbart and InfoWars on the right, it focuses nearly exclusively on real and imagined connections between Trump and Russia. The tone is breathless: full of unnamed intelligence sources, certainty that Trump will soon be imprisoned, and fever dream factual assertions that no reputable media outlet has managed to confirm.

To read more, and I wish you would, check the rest out on Vox. But come back and finish here…self indulging a little.

It’s time for the American people, those ‘irredeemable deplorables’, those ‘libtards’ or ‘snowflakes’ on the left who went to the rallies, got out and voted, and let their voices be heard, to stand up for what they voted for.  And that can be summed up into one easy to understand word – America.

There are much more appropriate, and impactful ways to make progress a reality then destroying a college campus like we saw in Berekley, and continue to see throughout the US. Also, conservatives, there are more ways to get heard then constantly being controversial – Milo -. I know controversy sells, and that’s a whole other problem. And Antifa you are about as fascist as they come.

churchill quote fascism

Liberals, Conservative, Moderates, and everyone else on all sides of the spectrum voted for their vision for America. Have we lost our way so much that WE the American people will stand for our elected officials to bicker over alleged Russian collusion, tax returns, or whatever else Congressional leaders are arguing over daily on the hill instead of fixing what is ACTUALLY broken with our country? Infrastructure, taxes, health care, advancement of science and technology, our veterans coming back from wars broken, and without the help they need.

Have we all become mindless zombies, sheep, following whatever crap is coming out of Washington DC’s mouth?Or whatever headline click-bait article the Times, Post or CNN is shoving down your throat? Did you lose all ability to think for yourself?

I didn’t vote for President Trump, and yes I did, to have absolutely zero progress get done. I didn’t vote for my congressman to bicker in congress over who said what to who. It’s reminiscent of a Jerry Springer episode, “You are not the father!”.

Have we forgot how great America is? What it stands for? Have we forgot how amazing we were? And yes, we were, I said it. We aren’t where we need to be right now as a country.

The moral of this story is that every American; White, Black, Brown, Liberal, Conservative should be ashamed of both themselves, and their elected officials. We didn’t get hope and change with Obama, and I voted for Obama, BOTH TIMES, I bought into his hope and change speeches. We got 8 years of the same ole’ policies that promote special interests, cater to the wealthy, and added more people on food stamps, gave out free cell phones, ruined healthcare, and the list goes on. I voted for Trump because I was sick of the way things are in Washington, and want to drain that swam, and trust me, its a festering stink-hole of a swamp. But what is happening now? The same ole’ Washington cesspool up to its old tricks.

Elected Officials, DO YOUR JOB. Fix this country, protect us, promote jobs over welfare, get us back to work. Help us prosper, fix healthcare, stop ISIS and terrorism. And most importantly, stop being drama queens, and do what you were elected to do, quit worrying about getting through the next election to keep your job, and just do it.

To the American populous, we are all red-blooded Americans, and we have got to come together. The world is watching.

Corny yet relevant quote from The Newsroom:

We aren’t the Greatest nation in the world. We sure used to be. We stood up for what was right! We fought for moral reasons, we passed and struck down laws for moral reasons. We waged wars on poverty, not poor people. We sacrificed, we cared about our neighbors, we put our money where our mouths were, and we never beat our chest. We built great big things, made ungodly technological advances, explored the universe, cured diseases, and cultivated the world’s greatest artists and the world’s greatest economy. We reached for the stars, and we acted like men. We aspired to intelligence; we didn’t belittle it; it didn’t make us feel inferior. We didn’t identify ourselves by who we voted for in the last election, and we didn’t scare so easy. And we were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were informed. By great men, men who were revered. The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one—America is not the greatest country in the world anymore.

To the media, start acting like journalists, If Walter Cronkite, or Joseph Pulitzer could see the state of the media now they would be ashamed, and so should you.

I will leave you with a few videos I think are relevant and that everyone should watch for perspective, please take the time and do so.

Thanks for listening to me, I am far from a journalist, I am a Computer Science major with dreams something more, and different. And I am quite aware it isn’t as simple as I make it out to be, but it isn’t as hard either. It starts with you.

First, and yes its from a TV show, the speech from Newsroom that went viral when it happened. It’s relevant to our times.

Next, and this is a must watch, I present you Ronald Reagan.
